Ingredients

Essential Ingredients:

  • Fresh passion fruit about 6–8 fruits – Look for wrinkled, slightly soft skins, which indicate ripeness and maximum sweetness.
  • Water as needed – Helps adjust the consistency of the puree.
  • Optional sweetener honey, sugar, or agave syrup – If you prefer a sweeter puree, add a touch of natural sweetener.

Optional Enhancements:

  • Lime juice – A splash enhances the tropical flavors and adds a bright citrusy kick.
  • Vanilla extract – A small amount can add depth and warmth to desserts and drinks.

Equipment Needed:

  • Sharp knife & spoon – To cut the passion fruit and scoop out the pulp.
  • Blender or food processor – For creating a smooth puree.
  • Fine-mesh sieve – To remove the seeds if you prefer a silky texture.
  • Airtight container – For storing the puree in the refrigerator or freezer.

Instructions

Step 1: Select and Prepare the Passion Fruits

  • Choose ripe passion fruits with slightly wrinkled skin, as they are sweeter and more aromatic.
  • Rinse the passion fruit thoroughly under running water to eliminate any dirt or impurities.
  • Slice each passion fruit in half and use a spoon to scoop out the pulp and seeds into a bowl.

Step 2: Blend the Pulp

  • Transfer the passion fruit pulp into a blender or food processor.
  • Add a small amount of water (1–2 tablespoons) to help loosen the mixture, making it easier to strain later.
  • Blend for 5–10 seconds—just enough to separate the seeds from the juice without crushing them completely.

Step 3: Strain the Puree (Optional)

  • Place a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth over a bowl or measuring cup.
  • Pour the blended mixture through the sieve, using a spoon to press out as much juice as possible.
  • If you prefer a bit of texture, you can skip this step and keep the seeds in your puree.

Step 4: Adjust the Flavor (Optional)

  • Taste the puree and, if desired, add a touch of sweetener (honey, sugar, or agave) to balance the tartness.
  • A splash of lime juice can enhance the natural citrus notes, making the puree even more refreshing.

Step 5: Store and Use

  • Transfer the puree to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • For longer storage, freeze the puree in ice cube trays and transfer the cubes to a freezer bag for up to 3 months.
